Preseason Practice At Viroqua High School

Day 4 of the 2019 season saw the Viroqua Blackhawks working on intensity and quickness drills mixed with conditioning. The team then broke into skill groups for instruction in their specialties.

Enrollment: 365.

Head Coach: Adrian Ugo- WISTCA District 3 2018 Girls Coach of the Year. This is Ugo's 11th year of coaching and 10th year as head coach of the Boys and Girls track and field teams at Viroqua.

Conference Coulee. Conference Schools: Black River Falls, Luther [Onalaska], Arcadia, Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau, Viroqua, and West Salem.

2018 Coulee results. Viroqua edged out Westby 148 to 146.5 to win the 2018 Coulee Championship. Viroqua also won the Conference Championship in 2017, and 2016 . The Blackhawks have won 7 of the last 8 conference championships. They took 2nd in 2015.

Left: : Jillian Weston in the 1600m run event at the 2018 State WIAA Meet where she placed 3rd. At La Crosse in 2018 Weston won the Bronze Medal in the 1600m run, placed 12th in the 800m run and anchored the Blackhawks to an 8th place finish in the 4x800m relay event.

Viroqua assistant coaches are Jerrod Getter (Pole Vault/Everything) 13th season, Courtney Raasch (Distance, HJ) is in her 5th year, and Troy McGregor (Throws/Sprints) is in his 4th year . Head coach Adrian Ugo is in charge of sprints, hurdles, LJ, and TJ.

Distance runners with distance coach Courtney Raasch [top right]. Courtney was a member of the 2007 D2 State Team Champion West Salem. In 2007 West Salem tied with Brown Deer for the championship.

There are no secrets to success. Hard work, attention to fundamentals, and a willingness to learn are the key ingredients. All were on display at the Viroqua practice.

The athletes rotated in intensity drills with jump ropes and quick feet drills on rope ladders
