Designed by the University of Washington's Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation, the model relies on information from state and national governments, hospital groups and the World Health Organization.
Dr. Deborah Birx, the White House coronavirus response coordinator, also mentioned the model to Chuck Todd on "Meet the Press" this weekend. "No state, no metro area will be spared," she said during the interview.
State and local officials should quickly react to the coronavirus threat and enact social distancing measures, she said, so that "we'll be able to move forward together and protect the most Americans."
Deaths could be higher if states don't enact those measures -- or if people don't follow them.
The model, for example, assumes that officials will limit social contact through May: closing schools, enacting stay-at-home measures, and limiting travel and non-essential business. For states that don't implement at least three of the four measures, the model's estimates for hospital usage and deaths will go up.As a followup to the above Federal Guidelines

Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Alergy and Infectious Diseases said on Tuesday, April 14 in comments directed at professional sports that the only path for sports to return this summer includes no fans in attendance and players being kept in quarantine for the duration of their seasons.

On April 10th the WIAA announced that Spring Tournaments in boys tennis and golf, and the girls softball tournaments were canceled because UW-Madison has closed its campus through June 30.

As of April 14th, UW-La Crosse has stated on its events website link that all in-person campus events, including university sponsored and external groups, are canceled effective March 12. Since March 14 Wisconsin schools have been closed. This lockdown will exist at least until April 24. On April 16 Governor Tony Evers iissued a Stay At Home Order that effectively cancels the regular season. The WIAA Board of directors will meet via tele-conference on Apriul 21 to discuss options.

It should be noted that as of April 14 the following states/territories have closed their schools for the remainder of the school year: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California [Not formally closed but stay at home order indicates their schools will be closed], Georgia, Guam, Idaho [Recommended], Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky [Recommended], Louisiana [Executive order not posted but Gov. John Bel Edwards announced he will sign an order to close schools], Maine [Recommended], Michigan, Montana [Recommended], Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska [Schools closed through May 31 which is after normal school year], New Hampshire, New Mexico, Northern Marianas, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsyvania, South Dakota [Recommended], Tennessee [Recommended], Texas, US Virgin Islands, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, and Wisconsin. Note - New York City has closed its schools for the year. The rest of the state of New York schools remain closed at least until April 29. Also American Samoa, New Jersey, and North Dakota have closed their schools until further notice.
